Sue lives in Nizwa, Oman, and took the bus up to Dubai to meet us, so that we could all check into this Imar Spa (see previous post) in Um Al Quwain. I hired a car so that we could drive back to Oman at our leisure, and I could leave when I wanted to, without feeling bound to a bus schedule. Anyway, the first pic is the sandstorm we ran into on the way out of the UAE. For those of you thinking of driving between these two countries, we crossed at the border in Hatta/Al Wajaha. The trailers set up, though they said something about Hatta and Dubai municipality, they didn't scream "GET YOUR PASSPORT STAMPED WITH AN EXIT VISA HERE." We drove on another 7 km to the Omani border, at which point the woman kindly advised us to drive back and get the necessary stamp. And the Omani people? In a word: lovely. But I digress...the 1st palm tree shot is from the road in Oman, and the rest of the shots are from the souk in Nizwa. Sue works at the university in Nizwa teaching English. It's in the interior of the country, so it's hot, but "it's a dry heat".

Thanks for sharing a part of your life on this blog, btw, just reading about your experiencess seems surreal. And that picture of you in it, made me laugh it looked like you photoshopped yourself in it, great camera work too.
That's actually my friend Sue in the souk! My Canon Rebel X SLR camera has stopped performing. There were days when that camera took shots that looked professional, but in the last few years, things went downhill. The door on the back lost a piece of plastic, and was replaced by a digital camera this past Christmas. The great thing about the old camera? I didn't have to doctor a thing, but with these new point and click digital cameras, you have to do some photoshopping. Most of my images have been touched up, cropped, cleaned up, etc. just to look 1/2 decent. Sigh. When I have enough cash, I'll get the digital/SLR combo of the Rebelx, but this one will have to do for now. I'm glad you're enjoying the pics-I'll try and link my flickr images in my sidebar soon!
From L-Oman (culture shocked blog) - So glad you made it to Oman safely! Isn't Nizwa great?!? Did you get a chance to go up Jebel Akdhar???
