A few things. I understand the right to wear the niqab. However, time and time again people have used the niqab to do bad things.

It is well known that men will wear it to sneak places they shouldnt. This happens all of the time.

As to the religious nature of it, I would argue that it is NOT a requirement for Muslim women. If it is requied to cover the face, why would God BAN it for women performing Hajj?

Dont you think if it was required, He would allow it during Hajj, a requirement of all Muslims?

Having said that, I think women have the right to wear it if they do not, but I fail to see the problem with their face's being checked by females.

Maybe more needs to be done to explain why this is needed?

I suspect cheating, having someone take your exam, etc. might be one reason this has become an issue. I also suspect the university is trying to keep niqabs to a minimum, fearing that it represents something they don't want on their campus, but that's just a guess.

is it only me, but how can a woman stand that interference w/ her eyes?? it looks uncomfortable to me. that is riding right on her lower eye lid... you can even see her lower lashes coming over the top of the thing. that would bug the hell outta me!!

i think it shouldn't be allowed... if they want to cover, cover your hair, wear an abaya, but not full covering.

I suppose one gets used to it. My concern is how her peripheral is affected whilst driving.

Abu Sinan is right about the not-so-religious nature of it. This is a beduin tradition.

I'm the weird one who would rather wear niqab as opposed to just hijab. but my husband says NO. :( But that's cause I am so introverted and am all about the stealthy aspect of it! So cool! I can HIDE in plain view! Awesome. Of course this is me thinking about being in Jordan. I took up hijab there to avoid the fact that I was getting too much unwanted attention for the blonde.
