I know what you mean about provocative, Carmen. I first saw a MEMRI piece on Leilout's blog http://leilouta.blogspot.com/ (I think it was there) about female circumcism in Egypt. Doing battle was a male lecturer from al Azar and a female lecturer on Islamic law (clip #1090 if anyone is interested).
I like it me practice Arabic by looking for familiar words and such. I'd actually be happy enough to get the Arabic soap operas with English subtitles, so if anyone knows how to do that, or better yet, how to get current Egyptian films with English subtitles here in the US , your suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Memri is filling the gap on what is not published elsewhere. If you want a rosey view of Islam, watch NBC, CBS, ABC, or pick up a newspaper. MEMRI is about exposing the other side of the story.

MEMRI likes to pick the most provocative stuff to post on its site. I don't subscribe to them anymore.
