Following Layla's lead...my fave. We sang it my first year in Cairo. All the Minnesotans on staff let out a "whoop" when we got to the line, "There won't be snow in Africa this year..."
In all my years in the Gulf, I don't recall actually working with anyone from Minnesota. South Dakota, Montana, Saskatchewan and Manitoba... but not Minnesota.
Actually, for the last 10+ years Cairo American College has recruited heavily from Minnesota. The reason I've been giving is two part: something about the quality of teaching certification in the state and the fact that the woman who does most of the recruiting is from Minnesota. At least one of my colleagues fro MN had applied to CAC, however, and didn't get in.
There were quite a few Minnesotans at ACS when were first got there in 1997 (considering how small the staff was). They eventually moved on, but if I recall the Superintendent & his wife (teacher), Middle School Principle & his wife (teacher), and then another couple, both teachers. They all knew each other from previous jobs. And there might have been even more - these three couples I know for sure in the Middle School. BTW, ACS was much, much than Cairo American (500 plus students, K-12.)
I'm Minnesotan!! And I'm enjoying no snow living in Virginia this year. ;)
Missed you! Don't know if you remember me...I used to be an avid reader of your blog. I had the findingsalihah.blogspot.com blog. Went offline awhile and now am back with a new blog life, lol.
Had to check in and say hi...so glad to see you're still blogging!

Strange...
Apparently all them ended up at your school. :-)

My brother HATES that song because of that line!
Yes, who'd have thought Minnesotans had wasta anywhere?
@ Carmen, so much of it is cliche, but I still love it!
I really like that song.

Is that American Comm. School in AUH, Vagabond? Maybe it's true what they say about the standard of MN state certification.
I always thought that line ruined the song... I think it's the least of their worries that they won't get freezing precipitation...
lol...TL, too true. They could have melted the snow to make...water. lol
