I saw this a few days ago...killed me. I love the Japanese..they loves them their gameshows.
There used to be a similarly-themed gameshow by the (West) Germans in the 70s, called Telematch. It had a very Oktoberfest meets American Gladiator feel to it.
It has always amazed me how japanese game shows have always been about humiliation... in a culture that is so obsessed with 'face.' :-)
