I came across this forward in a very old email, and thought it was worth a recirculation.

In his memoirs, A World Transformed, written more than five years ago,
George Bush, Sr. wrote the following to explain why he didn't go after Saddam
Hussein at the end of the Gulf War:
"Trying to eliminate Saddam ... would have incurred incalculable human and political costs. Apprehending him was probably impossible ... We would have been forced to occupy Baghdad and, in effect, rule Iraq ...there was no viable "exit strategy" we could see, violating another of our principles. Furthermore, we had been self-consciously trying to set a pattern for handling aggression in
the post-Cold War world. Going in and occupying Iraq, thus unilaterally exceeding the United Nations' mandate, would have destroyed the precedent of international response to aggression that we hoped to establish. Had we gone the invasion route,
the United States could conceivably still be an occupying power in a bitterly hostile land."
If only his son could read.

I think the G.W Bush admin was so blindly arrogant right from the outset. Remember how they infuriated the chinese with that military fighters midair collision? How they were slapping the russians over the nuke agreements when they wanted to cancel it unilateraly saying its a cold war relic? I havent seen a group of politicians so steadfastly arrogant & blind to the truth in all my life.
By the way, thats my first time here, i have been wanting to come over for 2 months now but somehow i didnt, nice :-)

I hope the recent upset in the senate and house has dulled some of that arrogance. Just hope the dems don't blow it...Welcome, Jokerman!

Ive read somewhere, that Bush Sr. preferred not to discuss politics, and policy with his son, because he didnt feel like it was his place. But thinking along those lines has sent our world into an even deeper tailspin.

I liken George W. to the kid who needs guidance. Didn't he even read his own father's book?
