A review like this nudges me in the direction of re-reading the book. I think it oversimplifies the author's experience. I did not perceive her to have the same western biases that many Americans might have. Regardless, it's been a few years, and perhaps the way I perceived it 3 or 4 years ago, is different than if I read it today. At any rate, worth reading.
And contrary to the reviewers comments, I believe that the author wore purdah until they arrived in larger cities, where she removes it, and opts for the veil.
